Household Uses for Coconut Oil

Lots of people swear by coconut oil for all sorts of purposes, from beauty to culinary. But did you know that it also has many practical uses around the house? It is true and we want to share a few ways you can put this oil to use around your home.

Wood Conditioner

If not cared for, wood can warp and dull over time. That is why it is so important to care for the wooden elements in your home, and coconut oil can help you do that. To condition wood, make sure to clean the surface of dust and debris. Then working with small amounts, distribute the oil and work it into the wood using circular motions. Repeat the conditioning process whenever you notice wood beginning to dull.

First Aid

Virgin, unrefined coconut oil has powerful antimicrobial properties. Meaning that it can actually be helpful when tending to cuts and wounds. In addition to being antimicrobial, it is also known to reduce inflammation. After applying antibiotic ointment to a wound, apply a thin layer of coconut oil and dress with a bandage to aid with the healing process.

Cast Iron

Every kitchen needs a cast iron pan or two. They are extremely versatile and durable. It is important to keep your cast iron skillet well-seasoned for it to perform well. If you need to re- season your pan, coconut oil can help! Apply a thin layer of coconut oil to the entire surface of the pan and throw it in the oven upside down at 300 for 30 minutes.

Ultimately coconut oil is an excellent household staple. It is cheap, easy to find, and lasts forever. Do yourself a favor and make sure to keep a jar on hand.
